Have you heard of this unusual American holiday called Groundhog Day?
Groundhog Day is a very old, superstitious holiday. Nobody takes it seriously anymore, it’s more of a fun, gimmicky holiday. Most people don’t even get the day off of school or work to celebrate this holiday!
Every year on February 2nd a man take a groundhog from its little home and speaks to it (you can see how weird this is, right?). If the Groundhog saw his shadow, it means six more weeks of Winter. If not, it means there will be an early Spring. And that’s all there is to the holiday!
There are many groundhogs that go on TV during this event, but the most famous is a Groundhog named Phil. He lives in Punxsutawney, Philadelphia.
